I Want to Write 2022 Schedule Released

I Want to Write听听is a FREE, virtual poetry writing workshop series and performance extravaganza!听I Want to Write听is held annually during poetry month in April at 91制片厂.听 This year's theme,听听Poetic Justice: Journey and Transformation, features workshops inspired by current events and the call for uplift and transformation. Poetry related workshops and events will occur throughout the month and are sponsored by 听 听TSU鈥檚 English and Art Departments, Southern Word, TSU Media & Libraries, Regional Authors, and Soul Fire Poetry Organization. Congrats to our New LLP Spotlight: Dr. Deborah Burris-Kitchen

Deborah J. Burris-Kitchen, Ph.D. is a Professor of Criminology and Department Chair at 91制片厂 in Nashville.听 She is also a new member of the LLP community, currently pursuing a BA in English with a Spanish Minor! "I have already achieved my professional goal of being a college professor, but can always learn more." Dr. Burris 鈥揔itchen is also an activist who fights against violence, racism, exploitation, greed, and capitalism. "I love reading and writing literature and poetry." The Annual African American Read: Feb. 11, 2022

The Black Arts and Literature faculty of the Language, Literature, and Philosophy department presents the African American Read-In between 12:00-1:00p, Feb. 11, on Zoom. For one hour, enjoy hearing literature written for and about the Black experience. Faculty, Staff, and Students are invited to come read, listen, or recite examples of African American literature or their own creative works. PRIDE Training Day: Feb. 10, 2022!

The听 P.R.I.D.E. program 听aims to create a visible network of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and two spirit (LGBTQ2S+) individuals and their allies by providing an avenue through which any member of the TSU community can show their support.听 By participating in the P.R.I.D.E. Training, participants show their support for people of all genders and sexualities and commit to developing allyship skills.听 For more information, contact Dr. Jill Anderson.听

PASS Tutoring is Back, Spring 2022

This semester, faculty members from the English department are working with Tiger Tutoring. Tutors will be available starting Jan. 31. This service is free to students. PASS is a great opportunity for students who need help with writing to receive immediate feedback from faculty. 听Our writing tutors are equipped to help students at the University with various writing assignments and activities (within English department classes and beyond). They can assist the student at any stage of their writing process from brainstorming ideas to providing strategies for revision. LLP English major DeAnthony Reed is our latest spotlight. He was recently accepted into the for prospective graduate students. Reed is a writer who plans to be a medical editor/writer. 听Although he has experienced many challenges in his professional pursuits, he likens hmself to Dory, the fish said in Finding Nemo, "I Just Keep Swimming, I can not stop." Words Worth English Club Seeking Membership听

Soul Fire is Back!听 "We Want Live Words!"

听Poetry Group and Workshop will return Fall 2019. 听The first meeting of the semester will be held at听 5 p.m., Weds., Sept. 8, On ZOOM .
